The interdisciplinary minor in Broad Field Social Science is open only to students from the College of Education who have a second major in history, political science (only Concentration I: Politics, according to the directions given in the Political Science section of this bulletin), psychology or sociology. This minor allows students to prepare for the license extension offered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for Broad Field Social Science.

The interdisciplinary minor in Broad Field Social Science consists of seven courses (21 credit hours). Students must choose seven courses from among the six groups of courses listed below. Courses for the minor must come from five of the six groups. None of the seven courses taken for the minor can be in a group that corresponds to the student’s major. (For example, if the student is majoring in anthropology, the student should not take any courses in the anthropology area listed below.)

Group I - History: Choose 0 or one course from the following:
Growth of Western Civilization to 1715
Growth of Western Civilization since 1715
Introduction to American History
Group II - Anthropology: Choose 0 or one course from the following:
Introductory Anthropology
Cultural Anthropology
Human Geography
Group III - Sociology: Choose 0 or one course from the following:
Principles of Sociology
The Family
Social Problems in Urban Society
Group IV - Psychology: Choose 0 or one course from the following:
General Psychology
Introduction to Life-Span Developmental Psychology for Nursing Students
Introductory Social Psychology
Group V - Political Science: Choose 0 or one course from the following:
American Politics
Comparative Politics
International Politics
Group VI - Economics: Choose 0 or one course from the following:
Introduction to Economics
Principles of Microeconomics
Principles of Macroeconomics
Elective: Choose one additional course from one of the areas listed above (except for major area):
